Waiting for MAMbo
Terrazza G.A.M. Bologna
In 2006, ahead of the opening of Bologna’s future Museum of Modern Art (MAMbo), the city’s Gallery of Modern Art (G.A.M.) hosted an innovative event that fused culture, art, and entertainment in a format that was entirely new to the city. In collaboration with the cultural association COA, Gaetano Lanza curated the organisation and set-up of the event, actively contributing to the creation of a concept with an urban feel and contemporary edge.
Entitled Waiting for MAMbo, the project transformed the G.A.M.’s terrace and indoor spaces into a creative crossroads open to the city: a place where visual art, electronic music, nightlife, and cultural exchange flowed together in a stimulating and engaging way. The terrace became a vibrant, welcoming environment with lounge areas, a bar, and a stage featuring some of Italy’s best contemporary electronic music DJs, selected by COA.
At the same time, the G.A.M.’s exhibitions were open for night-time visits, offering an immersive, unconventional, and atmospheric cultural experience.
The event attracted a diverse and culturally engaged audience – artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, bloggers, and contemporary culture enthusiasts – who found in this initiative a dynamic meeting point perfectly in tune with Bologna’s intellectual, curious, and original spirit.
A cultural and sensory experience that left its mark, proving how art can step beyond institutional boundaries and engage with urban life in surprising, participatory ways.
